Should I have both carpal tunnels released at the same time?

Patients have the option of deciding whether to have both sides operated on at the same time or performing them individually with a break for recovery.

The ‘mini open’ approach has a cut in the palm which can make it more difficult to perform activities of daily living if both sides are done at the same time. It is not usually recommended to have both sides operated on at the same time with this technique as it is difficult to care for yourself during the healing period.

One of the benefits of the ‘key hole’ endoscopic technique is that the cut is in the wrist and therefore makes it easier to perform activities of daily living even if both sides are operated on at the same time.

All options will be presented to you by Dr Wael Chiri.
