How long do I need off work after Carpal Tunnel Surgery

The first step in the post surgery recovery is allowing the wound to heal.

With the mini-open approach the wound takes approximately 2 weeks to heal but can remain sensitive and painful for 6 weeks, especially if performing heavy manual/repetitive tasks.

The ‘key hole’ endoscopic method avoids a wound to the skin in the palm but can still be tender due to the release of the carpal tunnel under the skin. The wrist wound tends to heal in 7-10 days.

Dr Chiri usually recommends at least 1 week off work before returning to office based duties and 3-4 weeks before returning to labour intensive work.
